Memorial Day Weekend

Well this is a little late but oh well. For Memorial day weekend our Hudson cousins from Dallas came and visited us. We did ALOT. Saturday morning we got up early and went down to Brazos Bend to see the alligators. The kids rode around in the back of Uncle Richie's truck (I wouldn't because it was messing up my hair)

We didn't get very far on our walk before we had to turn around. This was so funny. Claire had been terrified the whole time, all ways hanging on to some adult. After we assured her that the alligators would not come on the path she got a little braver. So she decided to walk ahead a little. We were all looking at one in the water when Claire comes running terrified, and all she can get out is "on the path!"
After that we went to an Astros game, but forgot our camera in the car :(

Monday morning we went to a Memorial day service at the veterans memorial cemetery

This cemetery is huge! Its only 2 acres smaller than Arlington.

There were so many people that we had to park way far away. So instead of walking for 20 minutes to get to the entrance we hopped the fence! :)
After that the kids all went to the neighborhood Memorial day pool party and I went to my friends pool party.

Surprise!

A while ago at school we had a scholastic writing competition. I hate writing. So when I found out I could write a poem instead of a story I was all for it. Until I heard it had to be at least 35 lines. But I made myself do it and it turns out... I was picked to be in the contest! It was a total surprise! :D

Witch’s Brew

More minutes slowly tick by and by,
And soon it’s the witching hour my, oh my.
I can hear the floor above me creaking,
And the sink below me slightly leaking.

Stir; stir the witch’s brew,
Watch out she might be coming for you.

I see a dark shadow walk slowly by,
Then something mysterious up in the sky.
I look more closely to wait I see,
And get the urge to suddenly flee.

Stir; stir the witch’s brew,
Watch out she might be coming for you.

I run outside onto the street,
And here behind me a single heart beat.
I can see the wind run through the trees,
And feel the shaking of my knees.

Stir; stir the witch’s brew,
Watch out she might be coming for you.

I turn around to what is there,
And could not help myself but to stare.
What I saw was a complete surprise,
I just could not believe my eyes.

Stir; stir the witch’s brew,
Watch out she might be coming for you.

Standing there great big and tall,
Was the silliest witch of them all.
Her hair was green with purple lights,
And her legs were covered with sparkly tights.

Stir; stir the witch’s brew,
Watch out she might be coming for you.

She wobbled when she walked towards me,
And handed over a golden key.
I took it from her wrinkly hand,
She said it was for a magical land.

Stir; stir the witch’s brew,
Watch out she might have a gift for you.

She lifted up her magic wand,
The key transformed into a magical pond,
It wasn't what it really seemed,
I woke up to find that I had dreamed.

Good news! Great news! Amazing news!

This is my last year in Doerre Intermediate School and next year I'm going to high school. I'm pretty sure by now that everyone knows that I LOVE art. All kinds of it. So of course I signed up for art next year. Everyone freshman year has to take art 1 which is basic level- boring. But... The high school art teachers each year come and look at our portfolios to see if there is anyone that they will let skip and go straight to advanced art. They don't have a specific number they take, they just pick whoever is good. The good amazing great news is... I got picked!! I'm soo happy! I always go into art before school and work with some friends. The morning after the portfolio review I was so nervous! When I found out I made it I was so happy I actually started crying!
I cant wait till I get to take this class next year and hope I don't disappoint them!

Cinco de Mayo!

Ok, well I know Cinco de Mayo was a couple days ago but oh well. This year Mrs. Penny from Theiss Elementary asked me if I wanted to do a painting for the celebration at the school. It was like a month before Cinco de Mayo so I thought sure no problem! This will be fun! But then I forgot. She called me May 4th to see if she could pick it up and I hadn't even started! I hadn't even drawn what it looked like! After painting for 7 hours straight I finally finished around midnight! It was so huge! It was around 10 feet long. Seriously.

We couldn't get that great of a full picture because it was longer than our living room!

Happy Birthday Mom!

This year was mom's 40th birthday! The day before her actual birthday we decided to throw mom a family surprise party. She was working till one then was going to the doctors so she wouldn't be home till around 3. I was already home from school not feeling well and Dad went and got the other kids out of school early so we could surprise her even more. The balloons looked black instead of purple and the streamers were supposed to be black instead of brown... oh well!

Poor mom :D

The cake was like a fire ball! We actually had to take it outside and open the doors and windows because it filled the kitchen with smoke!

Claire was comforting Mom because she was feeling old

The funniest parts was watching Elvis try to pop one of the balloons. He does this every time we bring one home. We love him!
